On April 17 and 18, we held the first annual Flint Hill Association Pastor’s Wives Retreat with the theme: ZEST – A Weekend of Refreshing. Seventeen ladies gathered in Topeka for a refreshing break and a time of fellowship. Over the two days we had scheduled several different sessions, each of which began with a worship led by Tiffiny Hurr.
Tiffiny, who plays keyboard and sings on the worship team at her home church, has a special heart for women’s ministry and describes her calling as “leading others in truth and worship.”
Friday evening included fun activities with some great cash prizes. We were pleased to have Gale Nation as a special guest. Gale is not only the Director of the New Hope Food Pantry in Topeka, in her “spare” time she is a chalk and hand lettering artist and is the owner of Sugar Beet Studios.
Gale brought some spring craft ideas for our ladies and then led a craft session in which everyone made a spring wreath as well as a lovely “birds nest” jewelry piece that will be perfect for Mother’s Day.
Saturday morning featured special guest speaker Julie Lynch. Julie is from Blue Valley Baptist Church in Overland Park, Kansas where her husband, Derrick, is the lead pastor. She has been active in kids ministries and student ministries and is currently the principal at Hale Cook Elementary in Brookside. From the book of Esther, Julie shared about a message about handling the “lemons” that come our way. Julie did a beautiful job of encouraging and ministering to the ladies.
We would like to take this opportunity to recognize Linda Durant and Jeanie Roten for the amazing job they did of planning the first retreat. The evaluations and comments from the weekend were so encouraging we’re already planning for another retreat for 2016. Watch the website — when we get a date set, we’ll put it on the calendar!
