Monday November 24 was an amazing day … it was TURKEY DAY at the New Hope Food Pantry!
18 volunteers gave away hundreds of turkeys and chickens and all the fixings to make complete Thanksgiving dinners for those in need. Gale Nation, Food Pantry Director, said that “People started lining up at 5AM in 30 degree weather – and I had volunteers who worked inside and outside for 5 hours to make sure everyone who showed up got fed, had treats in line and got a hug before they left.
A lady in line handed me four dollars – all she had in her purse – and told me she wanted to ‘give back’… and all I could do was hug her and try not to cry. Every client that comes through our door has my heart. I didn’t have a lot of time to take pictures today but the line was LONG, the s’mores were delicious and we took a LOT of selfies! (proven fact – laughing warms you up!!!)”
Gale says “If you want to make a difference this holiday season, GIVE. Give generously. Give because it’s fun. Give because you CAN. Give to your local food pantry or give to New Hope! $5 will buy a complete Christmas meal – turkey and everything that goes with it! For the price
of a cup of coffee, you can make someone’s holiday very special. 98% of every dollar donated to New Hope goes to buy food – and that’s a statistic that can make you feel great about where your money goes! Next month, we plan to double the number of turkeys and chickens we gave away today – because Turkey Day in December is my BIRTHDAY!! And all I want is more turkeys!”
